The Season of Lent

Beginning with Ash Wednesday this week, the season of Lent begins.

Why Ash Wednesday?

The name Ash Wednesday came from the practice of applying ashes to congregants foreheads. As Genesis 3:19 tells us, we came from dust and to dust we will return. The ashes remind of us our mortality and the need to be cleansed from sin.

What is Lent?

People unfamiliar with the practice believe that it is about giving up things. In reality, Lent is a time of deep reflection and penitence considering the sacrifice Christ has made for us. Many Christians choose to give something up as a way to remember Christ's sacrifice.
